What are some great Halloween costumes I can make at home (perhaps with purchasing some pieces)?

I am not an expert sewer or someone who knows a lot about how to make things, but I would appreciate any ideas you have about inexpensive costumes I could put together and make great.

Male costume ideas would be great also.

I do not have a lot of money to spend on costumes.
Thanks
:)

When my 4 kids were growing up, this was always something that came up before Halloween, as we came up with costume ideas that were made from stuff we had around the house.
One idea that is really easy is a ghost costume. You just take an old white sheet, drape it over your child to make sure it covers, if too long, then just cut it to where he or she won’t be tripping on it. Cut two large holes for the eyes so your child can see properly.

You do so many fun things with this idea. Make patches for the sheet and buy a hobo hat to wear is one idea.

Make a homemade gypsy costume. Go to your local thrift shop and find an old large blouse, perhaps a long colorful skirt. and a wide belt. Tie a scarf around your child’s head gypsy style, tuck the blouse inside the skirt and then finish the look with big wide belt, and gold necklace chains.

I hope these ideas help.

Read this one the other day…take a yellow sweatshirt and sweatpants. Lay them down and take a tire and put black paint on the tire tread. Run it back and forth over the front and back of the outfit. Put it on and have fun!
(It’s a Speed Bump costume)
