Night of the Comet
Night of the Comet (1984)

IMDB rating: 6.10

Plot: Two sisters, high school seniors in the early 1980s, awaken one morning to blood red skies and the realization that the human race has been wiped out. It becomes apparant that anyone who was not surrounded by steel when the Earth recently passed through the tail of Haley’s comet has been reduced to a pile of red ash (the trace elements of human chemical makeup.) They encounter a rebellious Native American man and take over the air waves at a local radio station in an attempt to get help. Unfortunately, they attract the attention of a group of scientists who knew what the effects of the comet would be. They hid underground in a steel laboratory, but idiotically left the vents open. Now, as various survivors of the comet who were only partially surrounded by steel are decaying into flesh-hungry zombies, the scientists are attempting to come up with a vaccine made of the blood of people who were not infected by the comet. Thus the trio must fight their way past not only roving packs of the cannibalistic dead, but also outsmart a pack of scientists desperate not to become that way themselves.

Detective Harvey is seated in the police station, tapping his rough, short cut fingers along the rotted, wooden edge of the old police house desk. His hair is mid-length short but is covered by a worn out detective hat. No other town still use them, but the detective likes the old, rustic-like theme it brought out to the village.

why doesn't movies gross income go by amount of tickets sold? It should solve inflation value?
It always interest me how new big movies for example: Avatar, The Dark Knight, Pirates of the Caribbean, Spiderman, Titanic and etc.

They would compare each other gross value. The release of these movies are in different years and it is hard to tell which movie made more money due to inflation.

Why not go by the amount of tickets sold? If 3D and IMAX play a big role in figuring the numbers why not make different type of movie based off of a point system. (note not to scale its an example) I-MAX = 2 tickets 3D 1.5 Tickets regular 1 ticket.

Wouldn’t it help make it easier to identify which movie is superior in world wide?

Or maybe they should pay these actors millions of dollars
CatWings: Pet dogs birth junk | Jan 11, 2010

If they rated movies by the number of tickets sold rather than the monetary value then none would ever get any top billing.

If I remember right the animated movie "Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs" has sold the highest number of tickets worldwide. But u must remember that it was first released in the 30’s and re-released over and over every few years until the era of videotape. Movies today are not re-released like that so they don’t have the advantage of the repeat cycle.

Wet Asphalt
Wet Asphalt (1958)

IMDB rating: 7.30

Plot: When a made-up story crafted to meet a rapidly approaching deadline spirals out of control, a young reporter takes it upon himself to warn the public and his journalistic peers of the dangers of sensationalism in this long-lost film noir directed by Frank Wisbar and starring Horst Buchholz. Aspiring journalist Greg Bachmann (Buchholz) has just been released from prison and is looking for some honest work. Soon hired as assistant to influential yellow journalist Cesar Boyd (Martin Held), Bachmann is shocked to discover that his new employer has concocted the story of a blind Nazi soldier discovered in a bunker years after the end of World War II in order to meet a looming deadline. When other reporters latch on to the story and run a phony picture of the long-lost soldier, a peaceful protest aimed at pressuring authorities to release the man quickly elevate into a full-scale riot. Now, with all of Europe in chaos, Bachmann must race to expose the fraudulent scoop and spread the word about the dangers of tabloid reporting.

For all teenagers. How does my story sound so far?
Chapter one.

The woman scurried down the street, pressing her bleeding left knee with her slender hand and stealing quick looks behind her. She knew he was following her. The lampposts at her side offered no guidance; they all stood silently, their heads fogged with dust as if they existed in a place forgotten by time.

She gasped louder as she pulled her wounded leg behind her, unable to bear it anymore. The pain surged through her lower body and blurred her eyes. She wished for a voice to offer her a temporary refuge in the ever-increasing coldness of the night, but the buildings that surrounded her were all stark and dim as the trees facing them.

After sometime, she glimpsed the light of a far store she quickened her pace towards it. Footsteps emerged behind her. Afraid to turn her eyes from the store, she struggled faster down the street, convincing herself that it was just the sound of her high heels over the asphalt; it was just an illusion.

After falling to her knees in front of the store, she called out.

ENGLISH 10 points quick question?
Question 1
Pastiche is a technique used when writers blend genres such as fantasy and realism or fiction and nonfiction.
-True
-False

Question 2

Read the excerpt from Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Letter from a Birmingham Jail and use it to answer the question.
Excerpt:
Will we be extremists for hate or for love? Will we be extremists for the preservation of injustice or for the extension of justice? In that dramatic scene on Calvary’s hill three men were crucified. We must never forget that all three were crucified for the same crime—the crime of extremism. Two were extremists for immorality, and thus fell below their environment. The other, Jesus Christ, was an extremist for love, truth and goodness, and thereby rose above his environment. Perhaps the South, the nation and the world are in dire need of creative extremists.

This quote most obviously uses the rhetorical strategy of logos.

-True
-False

Question 3

Read President Obama’s inaugural address, delivered on January 20, 2009, and use the text to answer the question.
Which emotion in Obama’s speech is most likely intended to inspire?

-patriotism

-fear

-elation

Question 4

Read the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Letter from a Birmingham Jail and use it to answer the question.
To whom does the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. address his Letter from a Birmingham Jail?

-other religious leaders

-other men of faith

-The board of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference

This is not a question, and it is certainly not a quick question. You are trying to get someone to do your homework/quiz for you. Do your own work. Trying to get answers here for this sort of thing is cheating. You aren’t helping yourself learn by doing this.

SCENT OF FEAR

By

Jesus T. Peralta

CHARACTERS:
MAN
PATRICIA
CONRADO
LEON

As the curtain rises, a single lighted reading lamp is seen at the stage left, in the corner, making a solitary stab in the darkness. Beneath the circle of light, in a chair is the MAN cowering from dark. In the penumbra, at the center downstage is a furniture arrangement. And between this and the lamp against the background is a small table with wine bottles. seen in the bedrooms; one on the left and the other on the extreme left. On the right wall still reached by the reached by the filtered light is the street door.
An urgent rapping of knuckles rips through the stillness. The MAN is startled into obvious fear. He makes one frantic move to put out the light and stands silently waiting in the dark while knocking goes on. Finally, everything goes back to silence.
The bedroom door to the left opens, streaming light across the entire room. PATRICIA appears on the threshold and crosses the room towards the street door.
The MAN moves from his corner and meets her halfway, barring he way to the door with outspread hands.
MAN: (hesitant). No.
PATRICIA: What are you doing? Get out of my way. Go back to your room.
MAN: No, no.
PATRICIA: Stop it! What are you trying to do? Get back inside.
MAN: (persisting). No! No!
PATRICIA: Who let you out of your room? (Calling.) Conrado! (The MAN still tries to
stop her.) Get out of my way I say! Go back to your room. Do you understand?
MAN: No, no.
PATRICIA: (calling). Conrado! Of all irresponsible. . . Conrado! (She goes on towards
the door.)
MAN: (frantic). No, no! (Tugs at her.)
PATRICIA: Let go! What is the matter with you? Are you out of your. . . .
(Catches herself.) Conrado!
MAN: (pleading). No!
PATRICIA: (takes the man by hand and leads him back towards the bedroom door).
Conrado! (The MAN renews his protests as the other bedroom door opens adding more light to the room. CONRDO enters hastily robed.)
CONRADO: Whaat is it? Father, what are you doing here?
PATRICIA: What is the matter with you letting him out at this time of night? See who is knocking at the door.
CONRADO: (goes to the street door and opens it; looks out for sometime then turns
back, opening the lights). There is nobody out there. Mother are you sure there
was someone knocking?
PATRICIA: (iked). Of course. I am sure he must have gone away when nobody answered
him. Your fther, he kept stopping me from opening the door. Now I wonder
who it was. It must have been something terribly important or he would not
have come knocking this late. It might have been your brother Leon. Myrna is

Not anymore. North Korea is a very dangerous country. From we can see their official position is that they don’t care. More importantly they are financing their ambitions by selling their technology to people that mean to do great harm throughout the world.

Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea, the only real Korea, is the technological envy of the free world. Our Dear Leader is the most brilliant military genius in humankind history.

Dear Leader Comrade Generalissimo Kim Jong Il general Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea, Chairman of the National Defense Commission, and Supreme Commander of the Korean People’s Army is the flawless perfect strategist and iron-willed great general of Songun who build the Korean People’s Army into a match-for-a-hundred invincible force capable of defeating the US imperialists at one stroke in the defense of the Sacred Motherland of Korea united in single-minded harmony around the headquarters of the Juche Revolution.

With a great scientific insight General Kim Jong Il said that the Korean nation must always be ready for a war as long as the US imperialists exist on this planet. Therefore He build the Army, Party and People’s willpower of providing it with the complete means of defence and attack along the Juche-orientated lines of the Songun politics.

General Kim Jong Il is the Great General. Long live General Kim Jong Il! MANSE!!!

Kim is acting like a little boy who has been told NO! you can’t!!! But he is NOT a little boy, not a mouse! He is a Tiger flexing his claws, and thumbing his nose at the rest of the world! He sees the chaos going on in the USA and other countries, and he is making himself heard! As far as sending ANYONE into that country to try to talk to this man, I wouldn’t send my dead cat over there! His first son refused to take over for his Dad, he seems to have more brains, and can see what would happen if his Dad ever unleases a missle on the USA or any other country. The little one, well, maybe he’s a chip off the old block!

Surface post from Canada to UK – I need help…?
Hi, A friend of my posted me an big/large parcel, he lives all the way in Canada.

Because parcel is so big about 100cm X 50cm X 40cm he posted it by surface mail CanadaPost to save money…
I got given tracking number with it and tracing says that:

2009/12/1117:44WINNIPEGItem accepted at the Post Office
2009/12/12 15:55WINNIPEGItem processed at postal facility
2009/12/1315:55WINNIPEGItem processed at postal facility
2010/01/0713:47 International item has left Canada

So those that all mean that my parcel has been in Canada for nearly 4 weeks and just 3 days ago it left Canada? Really is that possible?

So now, is my parcel on air plane or ship (Boat) because my logic says that if it’s surface mail then it should be on boat but boat would take over 4 weeks to cross the ocean, would it?!

So is it possible that my parcel is on plane now?
What does surface mail really mean?

Thanks for looking and I hope you can help me.

Go to Canada Post website www.canadapost.ca
Click on English for a language (unless you prefer French :)
Now 3 choices About Us, Business and Personal. Click on Personal.
On the left half way down the page click on Send.
Now click on Parcels.
Scroll down to International Parcels.

Here you will see the quoted time frame of 4-6 weeks, for International Parcel Service. And yes your friend only paid for the slowest service.
It is going to go by Sea. Your parcel was probably put aside during the Christmas rush as a very low priority. Other packages were processed during Christmas rush that occupied the time.

You won’t see any more scans until it arrives in England, as it should be in a container on the ship.

Six weeks after posting would be around January 24th for delivery.

<<So now, is my parcel on air plane or ship (Boat) because my logic says that if it’s surface mail then it should be on boat but boat would take over 4 weeks to cross the ocean, would it?!>>

That’s likely to be an out of date interpretation. Much "surface mail" now gets sent by plane as well. The amount of time involved is a bit of a lottery. Planes only have a certain capacity, and different classes of postage bring differing levels of priority. What they attempt to do is to fill the plane up to its full weight allowance. Should demand be light, then items with relatively low priority can get loaded on with no delay. Should demand be heavy…

During the fortnight prior to Christmas, assume demand will be very heavy.
